Fun Fact: Black Sapote is a fruit that tastes and feels like chocolate pudding & has About 4X The Amount Of Vitamin C Than An Orange.

Black Sapote, scientifically known as Diospyros nigra is a member of the Persimmon family and is not related to Mamey Sapote or White Sapote. Black Sapote is also popularly known as Chocolate Pudding Fruit due to the flavor and texture being similar to dark chocolate pudding. This tropical tree is native to Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and into Colombia. We harvest this fruit locally, from Organic Farmers in South Florida

Until it's ready to eat the white pulp of the unripe fruit is astringent, caustic, bitter, irritating and not nice to eat. As the skin of the Black Sapote changes to a very deep green/brown when ripe and the white flesh takes on the flavor, texture and color of chocolate pudding. The dark brown seeds are not edible. For Additional Information Visit Our Ripening Guide

Black Sapote Pro Tips

Black Sapote arrives slightly unripe. The black sapote is at optimal ripeness when extremely soft to the touch (like a ripe tomato) and the green skin turns a bit brown. When cut open, there will be a rich dark chocolate pudding like color . The skin can be eaten if chosen to for added fiber, or you can use a spoon and scoop out the fruit.
